If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where Sam Mehran was born, what his lousy childhood was like, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap.

"I started out in Miami," explains Test Icicles' 19-year-old frontman. "When I was 7, I moved to Australia to a town called Adelaine that most people call Radelaide. It's not rad, I'll tell you that much. Well, it is. It's OK. Then after 10 years, I moved to New York for three or four months and then moved to London for some reason. I was 17 and just left my family. I don't know. Here I am, I guess.

Today, "here" is the swanky New York City hotel room Mehran's holed up in as his facetiously-monikered band—rounded out by guitarists/vocalists Devonte Hayes and Rory Atwell—puts the finishing promotional touches on their impending blow-up. Though instantly charming and wholly cooperative, Mehran, like another truant teenager that comes to mind, is also wildly capricious and prone to swells of truly gorgeous obscenity. Consider, for instance, what happens when he's asked about Hayes' food alergies.
